PCL’s City of Calgary Pedestrian Bridge

Project: Prince’s Island

Pedestrian Bridge Deck

Resurfacing

Owner: City of Calgary

Location: Calgary Downtown – Over

The Bow River

The Problem:

Client was experiencing rust blisters

and loss of traction on existing bridge

deck coating. They required a

replacement procedure that would

allow pedestrian traffic to continue,

and preserve the environment and

waterway below.

Service / Product Provided: One
half, and 200 linear feet of the bridge
was 100% contained at a time. This
isolated the work area, and allowed
pedestrian traffic to flow. Dalco then
removed the failed bridge deck
coating via induction heat coating
removal equipment. The steel deck
was then prepared with shot blast
technology. Client specified the PPG
system consisting of Amerlock 2
primer and SFT650 Poly Urethane;
providing a durable, non-slip surface.

Date / Duration: July-Oct 2016

Project Value: $450,000

Total Man Hours: 4000
